I work in the medical field, and have this in my office. People find it fascinating. I tried to read it, too, but I get distracted by the pictures, lol. The content I have read is equally interesting
Fabulous illustrations of common pre-antibiotic-age maladies such as syphilis, advanced gout, sepsis, various types of pox, etc. Morbidly fascinating and quite thought-provoking. How awful it must have been for human beings before the development of modern medicine and sanitary standards. How different everyday life must have been with people walking around emblazoned with the tell-tale signs of tertiary syphilis, people you probably knew. This book definitely restored in me a greater sense of gratitude for being born in modern times with our cures for..stuff.
Book itself came in perfect shape. Love the way it's laid out. It's like a medical text that has been simplified. Great illustrations and Lovely material on the covers. Great read. It's worth about 50 dollars in my opinion.
I saw this on a social network site and had to have it. I also purchased a copy for my daughter whom I knew would appreciate it as well. It might be too early to give a review as I’ve not read it cover to cover yet. However, it is much better than I expected with regard to the thought given on how human illnesses, deformations, and the exposed flesh should be depicted. The illustrations are fantastic, though I’m not in the medical field I could not say if everything is perfectly accurate. I’m enjoying it thus far and doubt I’ll be disappointed going forward.
